On Tuesday Madhya Pradesh Assemble announced a bill raising reservation in government jobs and education for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) to 27 percent from 14 percent.

The bill will provide reservation for OBC’s with 10 percent quota for the economically weaker sections in government sectors to 73 percent. “The backward classes should be given their due because they are still backward due to policies made by the Congress government which have deceived them for political gains,” says a BJP MLA Jalam Singh Patel.

Gopal Bhargava leader of the opposition says that a provision of at least 7 percent quota for ‘Ati-Pichhda’ (extremely backward) who are under the OBC community should be introduced while asking the Congress-led state government the benefits of this quota when there is a scarcity of jobs. Also, State minister Dr. Govind Singh says that the “Ati-pichhda’ community quota in-state will be analyzed and that 2.5 lakh vacancies in local bodies, state-run boards and corporations will be filled soon.

The Madhya Pradesh government brought an ordinance raising OBC quota to 27 percent ahead of the Lok Sabha election this March.
